After all of the veggies were pretty much done, I planted more spinach and lettuce in one raised bed to try out my new season extender. I have seen these things advertised in the catalogs and online, but I wanted to try it out for myself.
I bought a 3’ x 6’ 3-Season Plant Protection Tent from Gardner’s Supply Company. So far, I am very impressed with the results. There is a little sliver of lettuce that is growing outside of the tent, and the rest is inside the tent. The lettuce within the tent grew such much better being protected from the cold and wind. Impressive.
The tent really does help to extend the growing season. I even had a random bok choy growing in the tent. How awesome is that? Now, I can enjoy delicious greens well into the cooler months.
I will let you know what happens as we head into the winter. For now, so far, so good! Matter of fact, I plan on getting one more tent for another raised bed. I see more extended gardening in my future. EXCITING!
